Artist's Comments
A little something I whipped up for the ~masseffectclub's Neglected Characters contest. Now, I have no illusions about Sha'ira's popularity amongst the majority of the Mass Effect community. Personally, I think she's an interesting character, like Inara from Jos Whedon's Firefly, and I've wanted to draw her for a while. Although, I wasn't able to find any reference for what she wears in the game, so I had to adlib a little bit with that.
The way the crest turned out is definitely what I'm most pleased with. It took me 45 minutes to do that alone, but it was time well spent. I tried to replicate the details of her face coloring as much as I could. Another reason for my drawing this was just the basic fact of my developing artistic skills. A few people remarked on my previous asari pieces that I was good at drawing their "head thingys", but frankly, I took another look at them and went: "Good?! That looks like crap!" So this is my way of rectifying my previous errors. |

The lines are a bit heavy in this piece, also at her elbow they look a bit wonky, off somehow. Also, the shadowing between the third and fourth "head thingies" draws too much attention to itself, incongruous to the rest of the crest. Good job on the background, I would have died if it was more lilac; elegantly abstract, I like that. There is a spot of out-of-place color to the right of the line tracing between her arm and her chest, as well as some dirty-line syndrome at her shoulder.
The piece as a whole works well. You have done admirably.
